Role Overview

The Head of Cybersecurity is accountable for the overall cybersecurity posture of the organisation, responsible for developing, executing, and continually improving the organisation’s cybersecurity strategy and posture. Reporting to the COO and leading a team of three, this role combines strategic governance, hands-on technical oversight, regulatory alignment, and vendor management, including managing outsourced SIEM operations. Given the lean team structure, the ideal candidate must be hands-on, technically strong, and highly experienced in medium-to-large scale cybersecurity project delivery, with a proven track record in implementing cybersecurity programs. This role will operate at both Senior Management and Engineering depth levels, translating threat intelligence and control gaps into executive risk language while maintaining strong technical oversight.

Required Experience:

Core Requirements

  • Experience Level: 10+ years of progressive cybersecurity experience, including 5 years in leadership.
  • Team Leadership: Experience in leading small, high-performing teams.
  • Industry: Experience within financial services is essential.
  • Hands-On Expertise: Strong hands-on expertise in cybersecurity operations, incident response, SIEM, endpoint security, and identity & access management.
  • Vendor Management: Demonstrated success managing outsourced SOC/MSSP vendors.
  • Project Delivery: Proven experience delivering complex cybersecurity projects or programs.

Technical Depth:

  • Hands-on familiarity with cybersecurity technologies, such as: Microsoft E5 security stack, Azure Cloud Security, Threat Hunting, Vulnerability Management programs, Secure Network design, DLP.

Preferred Certifications:

  • CISSP, CISM, CCSP, GIAC, Azure security certifications.
