Looking for your next challenge in buyside technology?

My client is a Tier-1 Buyside Firm which combines research-led decision making, rigorous risk management, and a high-performance culture built around ownership, open debate, continuous improvement, and collaboration.

They are seeking a hands-on Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to strengthen the quality, reliability, resilience, and performance of its core trading and research technology platforms.

This is a true software-engineering opportunity for someone who enjoys building robust automation capabilities—not simply executing pre-defined test cases. You will take ownership of test strategy and automation frameworks, work closely with engineers, researchers, trading, and operations stakeholders, and help embed quality throughout the development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks and test suites from the ground up.
  • Build automated coverage across backend services, APIs, and user interfaces.
  • Define and implement functional, integration, regression, and performance-testing approaches.
  • Partner with engineering, research, trading, and operations teams to establish clear test requirements and quality standards.
  • Identify weaknesses in current test coverage and drive practical improvements to system reliability.
  • Champion shift-left testing practices so defects are identified earlier in the SDLC.
  • Contribute to technical design and architecture discussions, ensuring systems are designed for testability and automation.
  • Validate application correctness, resilience, and performance in low-latency, high-throughput environments.
  • Own framework design decisions and help establish testing best practices across the technology organisation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in QA engineering, test automation, or SDET roles.
  • Demonstrable experience designing and building an automation framework from scratch, including the ability to discuss its architecture and technical trade-offs in depth.
  • Strong software-development skills in at least one of Python, TypeScript, Go, or C++.
  • Practical experience using Playwright and/or Pytest for UI, API, or service-level testing.
  • Experience developing reusable testing tools and frameworks, rather than only writing individual automated test scripts.
  • Strong understanding of test methodology, test design, automation strategy, and framework architecture.
  • Proven experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
  • Prior experience within a trading firm, hedge fund, fintech, or another complex, data-intensive, low-latency technology environment.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering and research teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to performance and load-testing tools such as k6 or Locust.
  • Experience testing low-latency, high-throughput, or distributed systems.
  • Background in systematic trading, crypto, Web3, market-data, or electronic-trading platforms.
  • Experience applying AI to quality engineering—for example, LLM-assisted test generation, automated failure triage, evaluation of LLM outputs, or testing non-deterministic AI systems.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience testing data platforms, streaming pipelines, data lakes, or data warehouses.
  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Datadog and Grafana.
