My client, a premier quantitative trading firm trading across equities, options, ETFs, and fixed income, is seeking an exceptional Alternative Data Engineer to join their expanding team.
The Role:
Join a global team of 20 data engineers. This is a front-office technology position working directly with traders as the data product owner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and build custom ETL pipelines for alternative datasets from external vendors, acquired data companies, and publicly available unstructured sources
- Leverage Python and its data ecosystem (including Pandas) to transform complex datasets into actionable trading intelligence
- Collaborate directly with trading desks to identify valuable alternative data sources and deliver them in trader-friendly formats
- Focus on batch processing and sophisticated data transformation rather than low-latency streaming
- Develop automation tools and self-service data pipeline solutions for internal users
What We’re Looking For:
- 2-10 years of experience in technology or trading environments
- Strong Python proficiency with deep expertise in data manipulation libraries
- Proven track record building bespoke ETL pipelines in ideally on on-prem environments, otherwise you should have developed on-prem solutions before even if your firm is a cloud environment
- Trading domain knowledge or intuition for what datasets drive trading decisions
- Experience at technology firms, trading houses, or alternative data providers preferred. Less preferred: consultancies
What This Role Is NOT:
- Pure data analytics
- Building distributed platforms with Kafka or complex parallel processing systems
- Cloud-first architecture (this is 100% on-premises infrastructure)
- Pure infrastructure or platform engineering
The Environment:
The firm values speed, ownership, passion for technology, creative problem solving and healthy work life balance.
This is a rare opportunity to join a world-class quantitative trading operation where your data engineering expertise will directly impact trading performance.
All applications will be handled with complete confidentiality.
