My client, a tier-1 buyside firm, is hiring an engineer to develop and improve the systems supporting its research and trading activities. This opportunity welcomes candidates from financial-services technology with no prior quantitative development or research experience who wants to move into a quantitative trading environment. The focus is on strong Python coding skills, hands-on troubleshooting and ownership of production systems.

About the role

You’ll work alongside quant researchers and engineers in a position combining software development with production reliability. Beyond keeping systems running, you’ll investigate underlying problems, automate manual processes and improve the performance of research workflows and trading-related infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigate production alerts and failed processes, identify the underlying causes and implement fixes.
  • Improve monitoring to make system behaviour clearer and detect potential problems earlier.
  • Strengthen research pipelines by eliminating recurring faults and reducing manual intervention.
  • Write and maintain software that improves operational reliability and computational efficiency.
  • Optimise demanding workloads, including machine-learning and GPU-based processes where relevant.
  • Contribute across development, testing, deployment and ongoing user support.
  • Improve release procedures, system upgrades and recovery processes.
  • Provide responsive support during relevant trading hours.

What we’re looking for

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in financial-services engineering, production support or trading technology.
  • Strong Python development skills and practical C++ capability.
  • Confidence working with Linux and Bash for scripting, troubleshooting and system operations.
  • Experience resolving production problems through code and technical investigation.
  • The ability to take ownership of issues and work independently when systems are under pressure.
  • A performance-focused approach to building reliable, maintainable software.
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to communicate clearly with researchers and engineers.
  • No previous quant role or strategy research experience is required. Candidates should bring a strong engineering foundation and an interest in learning how research connects with live trading.
